Class 10

Preliminary Proposal Meetings

Class Overview

In this class, teams will meet one-on-one with the professor to discuss their preliminary plans for the final project. These meetings are informal, designed to provide teams with feedback on the feasibility of their proposed audit plans and how well they align with the open-ended final project requirements. The focus is on refining their approach, ensuring that teams are on the right track, and helping them understand how to implement key concepts learned throughout the course. This is a valuable opportunity for teams to ask questions and receive constructive feedback before moving forward with their project.

Why is this important?
The preliminary proposal meetings serve as an essential touch point for students to improve both their feedback reception and communication skills in a professional setting. By presenting a draft proposal, teams gain early insights into whether their plan is feasible and aligned with the final project’s goals. These meetings also provide a structured way for students to connect early course material to the final project, allowing them to identify the necessary steps to complete their project successfully. This iterative feedback process is critical to helping students navigate open-ended challenges and ensures they have a clear pathway to completion.

Review and Extension:
This class draws on all prior classes in both ACCTG 522 and ACCTG 522. In particular, it reinforces the planning elements covered in ACCTG 522, where students learned how to structure audit plans, as well as the ETL concepts from ACCTG 522. The proposal meetings allow students to consolidate their learning from both courses and apply those concepts to their final project. The meetings also give students a chance to think critically about how the skills and techniques developed in earlier classes are directly relevant to executing their final project.

Preparation:
  1. I recommend teams prepare for this meeting in advance as the meeting and memo associated with this class are part of your assessment.
