Class Overview

The Final Project Workshop provides students with the structured environment to begin planning their capstone assignment for ACCTG 522 and 522. This class focuses on preparing students for their Preliminary Proposal meeting—a crucial step in organizing and strategizing team efforts toward completing the Final Project. The Final Project itself is a combination of an Alteryx Hackathon and an Audit Planning Exercise, which collectively serve as the comprehensive assessment of the knowledge and skills obtained throughout the course. During the workshop, students will work collaboratively to outline their project goals, discuss initial approaches, and ensure they are equipped to present a clear and actionable proposal during their planning meeting with the instructor.

Why is this important?
The Final Project Workshop is essential for bridging technical material and theoretical knowledge with practical application, offering students the opportunity to synthesize and apply what they have learned in prior classes. This class is an important step as it allows teams a chance to self-assess their technical knowledge of Alteryx and to plan the steps they will undertake to complete the final project over the coming 5 weeks.

Review and Extension:
This class builds directly on prior classes, especially the early classes focused on EDGAR. We will work on creating the necessary structure to modify prior tools looked at largely independently into a cohesive approach to solving the final project.

Preparation:
  1. Please read the ACCTG 522 Assessment Preliminary Proposals materials in advance.

Class Plan:
Teams: during this class, please sit in your discussion teams.
  1. The class will have some introductory material that we will discuss in assessment teams that will help guide the workshop.
  2. The bulk of the class will be dedicated to team discussions aimed at assigning roles, deadlines and responsibilities to each team member, and putting together a plan.
  3. Teams should aim to finish class with a clear goal in mind, including a clear distinction between the parts of the project they are comfortable with technically (i.e., with working tools) and those they will be undertaking in the future.
