Class 12
LLMs and Financial Information
Description
This session introduces large language models as tools for extracting, classifying, comparing, and interpreting information contained in financial documents. LLMs are important because they can identify semantic relationships and concepts that are difficult to capture using predefined rules, while introducing new questions about reliability and reproducibility.
Motivation
What can LLMs extract that conventional analytics cannot?
Review
Previous sessions progressively transformed text from something we could search, into something we could quantify, and finally into financial documents that could be analyzed systematically. This session extends that progression by using LLMs to analyze meaning and context rather than relying exclusively on predefined patterns or dictionaries.
