EDGAR Explorer 2

Description

We will aim to complete our EDGAR Explorer case in both python and Alteryx. We will reconcile and extend our EDGAR Explorer tool that extracts real-time data sourced from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) EDGAR APIs. The extensions worked on in this class will allow us to transform and use this valuable data in our subsequent analysis to support our final project recommendations.

Motivation

Understanding and mastering advanced ETL processes is essential for accounting graduate students. In our use case, advanced ETL using APIs will help develop the skills of working with XBRL data, which is the modern way financial accounting information is provided to the public.

Review

We will continue to work with extracting real time data using APIs, directly updating the material from the prior class.

Preparation

• There is no required preparation for this class

Class plan

• After a very brief review, this class will be primarily in the labs, continuing the large data extraction task of obtaining real time data from the SEC.
